Past ensembles/musicians that Alex has performed with and/or composed for include, among others, the National Symphony Orchestra, Zakir Hussain, Bob Weir, Clint Black, Joan Jeanrenaud, the Paul Dresher Ensemble, members of the Kronos Quartet, the Turtle Island String Quartet, and the Quartet San Francisco, and, Pamela Z, Jazz Mafia, Mark Growden, Freddy Clarke, the CKW Trio, the Cooke Quintet, the Tigerlillies, the Mockingbirds, the Nice Guy Trio, Gojogo, the Pickpocket Ensemble, You Said Saturday, Jollie Holland, Sean Hayes, Felonius, the 7th Ave. String Quartet, the 100th Monkey Ensemble, the Knotty Ensemble, Confluence, the Orfeo String Quartet, the New Directions Cello Festival, Cello Bazaar, Cello Madness Congress, etc. Alex performed on Joan Jeanrenaud’s Grammy-nominated album Strange Toys with The 4 Cellos.
Past orchestral performances include principal and/or sectional positions with the Bohemian Club Orchestra, the Wichita Symphony, the Oregon Mozart Players, the Haddonfield Symphony, and the Golden Gate Opera Orchestra, the University of Oregon Symphony, the Wichita State University Symphony, and the Philadelphia and Wichita Youth Orchestras.
Past theater productions include 50 performances of Tim Barsky’s The Bright River at the Brava Theater, 100 performances of To The Lighthouse with Obie-award winning director Les Waters and music by Paul Dresher at the Berkeley Repertory Theater, and 100 performances of Figaro with Tony-award winning Theatre de la Jeune Lune at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. Alex has composed and performed music for several plays, including Viaticum, by Helen Pau.
Past modern dance performances include twelve productions with Lizz Roman and Dancers, which featured original music by Alex and DJ Clyde Sheets. Other highlights include performances with Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet performing Scheherezade with the music of Zakir Hussain, a six-week tour with the Margaret Jenkins Dance Co. performing A Slipping Glimpse with the music of Paul Dresher, and performances with the Alayo Dance Co, Kara Davis, Folawole, and others. Alex was part of a team that won an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for the score of Sean Dorsey’s Bullied in 2009.
Past Circus performances include a season with San Francisco's Pickle Family Circus, the New Old Time Chautauqua with the Flying Karamozov Brothers, and twelve seasons at the Oregon Country Fair. Other performances include shows with Frank Olivier, Tom Noddy, John Gilky, Geoff Hoyle, Jeff Razz, Circo Zero, Girl’s Circus, and Shannon Collier, among others. This year Alex wrote a tune for Les 7 Doigts de la main’s latest show.
